What is a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)?
A trained healthcare professional who provides direct, basic hands-on care to assist patients with their daily living activities while helping to ensure their comfort, safety, and dignity under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN/LVN).
Why This Role Matters
As a Certified Nurse Aide, you are the frontline of patient care and the heart of the healthcare team. Because you work closest with the patients, your observations are vital to their recovery and well-being.
What are some common job responsibilities?
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Supporting patients with essential daily needs such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting.
- Monitoring Vital Signs: Accurately measuring and tracking vital health indicators such as blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature.
- Documenting Patient Metrics: Measurement and recording of patient height, weight, and daily food and/or fluid intake and output.
- Patient Mobility and Safety: Safely ambulating, transferring, or repositioning patients using proper body mechanics and assistive devices like gait belts or mechanical lifts.
- Maintaining Safe Environments: Promptly answering call lights and bed alarms to respond to patient needs and prevent injuries such as falls.
- Providing Emotional and Social Support: Offering compassionate companionship, active listening, and emotional reassurance while protecting patient rights, privacy, and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).

How much does a Certified Nurse Aide make?
The average pay for a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in the North Texas area typically ranges between $16.00 and $19.25 per hour, which translates to an annual salary of roughly $33,800 to $40,000. However, pay varies based on education, experience & skills, work setting and location.
Enrollment Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age (applicants under the age of 18 require written permission from a parent or legal guardian prior to enrollment)
- High school diploma/GED
- Government issued ID (driver’s license, identification card, passport or military ID)
- Valid U.S. Social Security card
- Negative TB test results or clear chest XRAY within 1yr from date of application
- Pass a Criminal Background Check (cannot be listed on the Employee Misconduct Registry/Nurse Assistant Registry for abuse, neglect, exploitation, or misconduct)
- Pass a Drug screening (if required by clinical partners)
- Demonstrate proficiency in English reading, writing, and comprehension at an 8th grade level
